Wood paneling is the second largest segment of furniture in the United States, after tile, according to the United Wood Paneling Association.
The Wood Panelers, who represent nearly 1,500 woodworkers in the US, are asking for a federal court to overturn the ruling.
In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs said that a federal judge in Chicago “has abused his discretion in reaching a decision that does not apply to him,” and that the decision “violates the separation of powers and a fundamental principle of our democracy.”
Wood panelers are known for their craftsmanship and for their strong beliefs.
The lawsuit alleges that the wood paneling law violated the U.S. Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause.
In a statement to the Chicago Tribune, Wood panelers said that the case “reinforces the message that the U,S.
is a place of equality, freedom and justice for all.”
The lawsuit is part of a wider legal effort by the Wood Workers’ Alliance, a coalition of about 30 unions representing woodworkers.
The coalition is asking a federal appeals court to rule that the Wood Panel Law violates the Equal Protection clause of the Constitution.
